Fleas

Description

flea

Fleas are insects that have a red-brown body, and are about 1/8 inch long. They have a narrow body and long claws on all six of their legs.

About Fleas

Fleas in the Triad area are notorious for being a major nuisance and pest in your home. Anyone who has owned pets has more than likely had an experience with fleas, or will in the future. Fleas will attack and infest homes, families and pets with heir itchy bites that can transmit maladies, and they reproduce at high rates that need your immediate attention before they get out of control.

Many insects live in coverings, furniture and upholstery, while others dwell on a sustenance source to guarantee a new blood supply. A large number of insects suck the blood of humans or animals, such as the flea. When fleas bite, they leave an extremely itchy, swollen, and unpleasant bite behind.

Indications of a flea invasion can be recognized on creatures by analyzing the hair, skin, or fur. These parasites are small and normally dark, and can quickly jump from one place to another. When aggravated or startled, fleas will bounce in wide curves far from their host. They can be dealt with by maintaining a strategic distance that prevents further development, like using flea-shampoo on your pets, or if the problem is out of your control, calling pest control services for treatment.

Typical Habitat: The hair or fur of humans and animals.

Diet: Human and animal blood.

Danger Zone: Flea bites are itchy and can trigger allergic reactions. Fleas are potentially dangerous in your home because they can transmit serious diseases including typhus and tapeworms.

How To Control Fleas

Using pet preventative medications can stop fleas from latching on in the first place. Although once they have made it indoors they are difficult to remove. Begin by vacuuming frequently (especially in areas where your pets hang out) and discard each bag after every session. Wash your pets frequently with soap and hot water, or purchase flea shampoos/products. Use traps that attract bugs by emitting light and heat. Natural herbs and aromatics such as lemon, citronella, wormwood, and rosemary can also deter fleas from sticking around. Mix a few drops of oil with water in a spray bottle and spray pets every other day.

They are small, hard bodied, active insects that are wingless but possess powerful legs that are well fit for jumping. They are most commonly reported of infesting in connection with late summer. In temporarily vacant houses that are undisturbed by cleaning activities, fleas multiply rapidly, so that when the occupants return they are met by large numbers of these insects.

When possible, the use of a vacuum cleaner on floors, carpets and rugs is strongly recommended.

Thorough house cleaning, including scrubbing the floors with soap and hot water is also recommended to destroy the immature stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) of flea development, which may be present in floor cracks.
