How to save your home from annoying pests without killing the earth?
Even before, homeowners, farmers, and others only depended on natural remedies to fight off various forms of pests. You can also use and benefit from these organic methods to keep your house and family safe.
And, you can start here.
Soap Spray
One of the most popular and effective ways of controlling little insects, like beetles, aphids, and mites. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of mild liquid soap into 1 quart of water. Apply as necessary.
Essential Oils
The oil's strong insecticidal properties help in killing nearly all kinds of pests both in-home and garden. Mix some drops of essential oil (e.g. rosemary essential oil) with warm water.
Neem Oil
There are neem oil insecticides available in the market. You can also make one on your own. Start by mixing one teaspoon of mild liquid soap and two teaspoons of neem oil with one quart of water. Shake thoroughly and use as a spray.
Diatomaceous Earth
Food-grade diatomaceous earth is also popularly used to get rid of various pests. Since it is animal-safe, you can use it to remove fleas on your pets too.
Onion
Mix one big piece of chopped onion and chopped pepper with water. Make a paste and apply it to the highly infested areas in your home. Apply only once a day until the flowers and leaves clear up.
Garlic
Peel and crush a few cloves. Mix with water. Let infuse for at least 6 hours.
Chili peppers
Chop a bulb of garlic and 6 or 7 chili peppers. Put in a bucket filled with water. Steep for 24 hours and then strain.
Epsom Salt
Simply dissolve one cup of salt in five gallons of water. Place the solution into an empty spray bottle. Apply to the affected areas in your home or office. Another method you can do with Epsom salt is to sprinkle some around the area.
Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is one eco-friendly solution to remove pests. The acids contained within easily kill snails and slugs. White vinegar can be used as well.
Rubbing alcohol
If it is only a small infestation that you need to tackle, use a cotton swab and soak in the rubbing alcohol. Apply directly to the insects.
Tomato leaves
Especially if you're dealing with whiteflies or grasshoppers, tomato leaves can prove to be an effective method. Crush some tomato leaves and then soak them in water for several days. Strain and spray.
A Little Thing To Remember
It is important to test out the home mix first before using it thoroughly. This is to ensure your pets, little kiddos, or plants won't be harmed. Additionally, do not use detergents or bleach-based soaps due to their harmful effects.
